In a study done by Showers in 1987 and since supported by recent studies such as Linda Pfeiffer’s of Informatica, only 5% to 10% of the knowledge and skills imparted by typical training and development methods are transferred into the work place.

The Xerox Corporation found that the impact of using follow-up coaching after formal training gave a massive 87% increase in the effectiveness of training when compared to training alone. A 1997 study by Olivero, Bane and Kopelmann concluded that a three-day interactive training program on management competencies followed by eight weeks of follow-up coaching increased productivity by an astonishing 88%, while training alone increased productivity by 22.4%.
